Development of knowledge base for understanding neo-magnet corrosion
DTI has reviewed corrosion mechanisms observed in neo-magnet
corrosion based on literature studies and practical examples from
the REEgain company partners. The primary material concern is the
selective corrosion taking place along the boundaries of the
Nd2Fe14B grains - in the Nd-rich precipitates. Our current focus is
on studying corrosion accelerated by applying e.g. mechanical
stresses or constant/varying magnetic fields during environmental
exposure.

microscopy. The corrosion attack is concentrated along the
Nd2FeB-grain boundaries.
