Design of electrical machines for easy recycling

A reuse-strategy for permanent magnets in a direct drive wind turbine generator with approximately 2.5 ton of rare earth permanent magnets has been developed. The new magnet design have potential for being reused owing to its size and simplistic shape. The results are obtained through finite element simulations of the generator, and shows that the new design not only is reusable but also provides the designer with control of cogging torque and torque ripple.
